Vision Board

July 9th, 2009

Here is an example of what I attained after I created a new vision board.

I decided to start a new vision board this year since I had completed everything on the board I made five years ago.  When my vision classes began I created my vision board right along with the participants. Teaching, training and coaching have always been a part of me.  My last vision board had these skills on it and I utilized them in working with clients through the Small Business Development Center, Entrepreneurial Synergy courses, teaching at Friends University and developing a client base for my new coaching business, Lighthouse Coaching.  At one time I had six part-time jobs going doing what I loved.  Busy, but rewarding too.

However, I decided it was time to focus more and not spread myself out in so many directions.  My vision board reflected this by picturing one teaching job and coaching on the side.  This would give me a steady income and benefits and still be able to do what I love.  I even put a dollar figure on the board so I wouldn’t be tempted to take a job that would not support my lifestyle.  (I am a “yes” person like so many women.)

Then I started the job hunt.  Many jobs did not fit my vision so I was able to easily by-pass them.  I didn’t plaster my resume across the country; I waited for the right opportunities to come my way.  They did!  I received e-mails and a phone call about a job opening at the Entrepreneurial Center in Lincoln, NE.  This was my home base 13 years ago.  It fit all my criteria and more.  The only drawback was it took me away from the Springfield area where I had just moved the year before.  But the great thing about that is it forced me to downsize further.  I am learning what is really important in life and “stuff” just creates more of a burden of responsibility.  When you let go, there’s a feeling of accomplishment and clearing the clutter mentally as well as physically.

I am starting a new life and a new beginning.  When I saw my visions come true it was a great motivator and can be for you too.  Are you working on your vision for your future?

Welcome to my Blog!

Welcome to my Blog.

The purpose of this blog at this time is to develop a vehicle that will allow participants to share their accomplishments on their journey through life and business.

Some of you may have participated in one of my vision workshops where you developed a list of ideas things you would like to do in the future.  Then you created a vision board which pictured what you had in your mind.  You were then asked to put this vision board in a place that you would be able to see it as a reminder of your goals.

Many of you have been sharing with me the accomplishments you have made.  I would like to share those accomplishments with others to inspire them to do as you have done or something similar.  Plus, this can help others see that raising your level of awareness of something encourages you to focus on it and make the necessary changes to accomplish your goals.

Unexpected happenings

June 17th, 2009

We all have things happen to us that we didn’t expect.  There are times when we can’t explain what just happened or why.  My life has gone like this for as long as I can remember.  Things just happen in spite of myself.  I am either lucky or blessed, probably both.  Just like the other day.  I was power walking through the neighborhood by my new apartment complex.  I am directionally challenged and got off course for a little while.  I ended up a long way away from where I thought I was.  But lucky I did because I ran into a friend from the past who was walking his dog.  If I had not been off course, I would not have had the opportunity to rekindle an old friendship.  We must look for the opportunities that come in the detours on our journey through life.  Have you had any detours???  How do you handle them?

Lincoln Vision

June 17th, 2009

Twenty years ago a group of Marketing Instuctors in Lincoln had a vision of classes that would be taught off sight of the schools. These classes would be taught in businesses or malls giving us the opportunity to team up with businesses and bring the real world to the students.

Today I am living that dream by teaching marketing in the Entrepreneurial Focus Program with the Lincoln Public Schools, Southeast Community College, University of Nebraska and the Gallup organization.

What is your dream????
